Bonnie Helen Hawkins
Bonnie Helen Hawkins is a British artist and illustrator known for her evocative, imaginative work across media including pencil, oil and watercolour. She studied at Falmouth School of Art for only one year before developing her foundational skills and embarking on a professional art career.
Hawkins’s work is deeply rooted in narrative and emotion. Much of her art is inspired by landscape, memory, folklore and the natural world, creating pieces that evoke atmosphere as much as visual beauty. She describes her artistic process as intuitive and emotive, drawing on memories, experiences and feelings to shape her compositions rather than strictly literal depictions
In recent years she has gained recognition for her illustrations in literary projects. Notably, she illustrated A Pocketful of Crows and other titles by bestselling author Joanne Harris, bringing narrative depth and detailed character to these works.
Without doubt her The Under Milk Wood drawings are a beautiful reinterpretation of the play for "voices" by Dylan Thomas. Her delicate linework and atmospheric compositions capture the dreamlike and surreal rhythms of Llareggub, blending intimacy and quiet drama. Hawkins’ illustrations echo the lyrical tone of Thomas’s text while offering a fresh, contemporary visual sensitivity.
Beyond illustration, Hawkins has exhibited her fine art internationally, including across Europe and in New York, and has worked as an art tutor, sharing her passion for creativity with others. Her portfolio blends traditional art with imaginative storytelling, making her a distinctive voice in contemporary British illustration and fine art.
